Partnering with other ministries in the Akron area that are already doing this in great ways!
Seeking God for fresh ways to show His mercy in both practical and spiritual ways.

Internationals and Refugees:
When the Lord first gave the vision for YWAM Akron, He said this was a city of refuge. He led us to scriptures about these cities in the Bible. GOD IS OUR REFUGE! Not only do many people need to find refuge in JESUS that are from Akron, but many are being placed here from OTHER nations that need to know the love and acceptance of Jesus! At that time we had no idea that we would have over 1,000 Nepali and Bhutanese refugees in Akron in 2012-2013.
Matthew 25:35 "I was a stranger and you welcomed me."
We have done & plan on doing a few things with Akron Bhutanese Assembly. We have been very involved with leadership training and building relationships with the Bhutanese and Nepali Christians and pastors, encouraging them as they planted this new church & have settled into Akron over the past years. Such a joy to have in the city.
We are also looking to help with practical needs as we can.
The International Institute is Akron’s placement agency for the refugees. Building Hope in the City is also working to help the refugees in our region.

Over the past few years, God had been laying on our hearts to focus on praying for high schools. We have since prayer walked/driven around all of Akron's high schools, both public and private. We have felt God's heart for the students, faculty and administration of each school, engaging in conversation and prayer with principals and others as we have been led by God. We believe that God wants to develop YWAM's high school outreach, therefore, we launched a ministry within YWAM Akron called YIELD.
Yield- means 2 things: 1) to give forth or produce by natural process or as a result of cultivation. 2) to give up or surrender (oneself).
And he said to them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.
Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest."
Luke 10:2
YIELD’s aim is to find students from each high school in Summit County to form a county wide prayer group for their schools and community. To start out, our goal is to have at least two students from each high school in Akron, who are in love with Jesus and have a desire to see him glorified in their high school and in Akron. The students would come together once a month to talk about what is going on at their schools and seek the Lord's heart and pray. As they join together to pray for their fellow classmates and teachers, we want them to be encouraged and empowered to begin fulfilling the Great Commission to go and make disciples of all nations and preach the gospel right here in Akron and Summit County.
~We are looking for students from Buchtel, Firestone, North, East, Ellet, Kenmore, Garfield, Our Lady of the Elms, St. Vincent - St. Mary & Hoban High Schools. (these are the Akron Schools, we welcome students from the other 24 high schools in Summit County too.)
~This is where we need the help of local churches and youth groups. If you know any students who may be interested in joining YIELD, please have them contact Jennifer Patterson ( ywamakron@gmail.com)
